Artist Statement:

We all have an intimate relationship with fabric during our lifetimes. Life begins swaddled in a blanket and ends in a burial shroud. Although we take cloth for granted, I am enamored with all of it's qualities. It’s fluidity, texture, tactility, colour, the list is endless.

My artistry has developed through experimentation with fibres most of my life and I feel the journey has only just begun. Being an adventurous stitcher, I am always asking “What if….”. What if I combine different fabrics, how will the different fibres react to dye? I experiment by sandwiching plastic objects between shrinkable fabrics to monitor how the fibres contort themselves to encapsulate the objects. I play with creating depth in my work. I research means of bringing movement to a static medium. What am I able to stitch through: metal?paper?plastic? And the foundation of all my artwork is my love for colour.

So many questions that I still need to ask and so little time to construct the answers. What is my adventurous spirit pondering now? Possibly how to make my work stand on its own. What would happen if I…….

I invite the curious to come along to witness my journey with every stitch I create.
